a logical statement. Even so, a false dichotomy means that it’s illogical but NOT NECESSARILY UNTRUE. Considering Mills’ intent, there’s no doubt it is a rhetorical statement, imo.

But I think it's important to recognize that there were alternatives to a massive military action (with disastrous diplomatic and global economic consequences).

I wish I could agree as I always prefer to be hopeful.

I have not seen a single fact that would lead me to believe that the Ayatollah and company would settle for any compromise of any kind. They have one goal only and have said they will continue with their nuclear buildup no matter what. They have never kept their word. Their theocratic goal is world dominion. They admit it.
To me it is beyond foolish to believe peace could be possible under this scenario.

Under Obama's deal with Iran they were under regular inspections. During that time Iran was not enriching uranium.

In Trump's first term he tore up Obama's deal and that is when Iran began to enrich uranium again.

Last year Trump totally obliterated Iran's uranium enriching facilities. How was it possible Iran was anywhere near developing a Nuke weapon?

A false dichotomy (or false dilemma) is when a binary choice is presented when there are actually a range of options.

In this case I consider it applicable because the post to which I was replying implied that the choice was between was and permitting Iran's leadership to go about it's horrid business unopposed. There are (or at least were...) many other options short of using military force.

To clarify, in my conversation w/ observer, I was referring to the possibilities lying somewhere between letting Iran's regime alone and going to war against them. Perhaps it's the case that no middle ground options would succeed, but they are certainly available and some might have been a better option right now than what was decided on.
