A sampling, as the Lady of the Manor lays out a large but not insane amount of decoration each year, and each year different.
Not ones for "collectables", we still indulge but very selectively. In this case, ceramics reproducing a Norman Rockwell painting of Christmas in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. There is a strong family tie to that part of New England, so these get cracked out every few years to take pride of place on the mantel.
The little stockings are for the members of The Pride, of course, and the large knit one to the left was made by my grandmother when I was born. Still have it and still use it, a wonderful heirloom.
Last year the tree was done in '60s American kitsch (now called Mid Century style by the snobs and priced accordingly. Grin!) It was "bubble-lights", Hallmark style ornaments, every colour that doesn't occur in nature, wonderfully cheesy.
This year its red and gold, featuring Memsahib's collection of ornaments from the White House Historical Society, very selectively colourised and placed.
You will notice the ornaments underneath are plastic and plush ones, these for Hobbes, Grrr, the Swede, and Caledonia to enjoy. Every morning we wake up to a couple of them picked off the tree and batted about across the floor. It's what they are for.
