However illogical or even nonsensical it may be, I strongly suspect that we create our own reality as much by what we think as by what we do.
I have always detested and never written words that I believe could summon evil by expressing it. I believe there's a truth to the power of prayer and why should that not apply to the negative aspects of human aspirations?
Media outlets that dispense doom and gloom on a regular basis are, I believe, undermining the health and vitality of the public exposed to these invidious, insidious sources. It's a bit like the apocryphal water torture, the drip-drip-drip of apparently harmless words and pictures whose cumulative effect undermines the morale.
