I guess I look at it a bit differently from my warped multicultural perspective. If twenty-five cents makes these self-absorbed entitled brood-mares put their dam cart back when they're done, then I have no problem with it. If that isn't enough to get them to think about anyone but themselves, I'm more than happy to take a few moments, put their carts back, and keep their dam quarters.
Paying someone to clean up after these people with no social skills shouldn't be an expense I ultimately have to bear. How is that different from self-checkout? Putting my trolley away like a civilised human being so the next person can use it is a different thing from becoming an unpaid employee and running the till.
And no, our clientele isn't "different"; I don't think your homeless guys in Maryland are actually buying their shopping trolleys, are they?
