Every now and then, especially when I feel a bit like I don't "belong" anywhere (a real mental danger for the expat or repat, a sense of not fitting in anywhere) I splurge on some treat that reminds me of one of those places in the world where I once lived, one that I remember fondly.
In this case, the "Ritter Sport", a German chocolate in various different flavours with my tea. There were these coffee places that sold coffee branded as Eduscho, usually a little shop with a counter and a few wire tables out on the pavements where you could get a small kännchen of coffee and a Ritter Sport, sit outside and read a book. Lovely.
My favourite Ritter Sport was Rum, Trauben, Nüsse (rum, raisins, and nuts). Some markets here import Ritter Sport, but for some reason (the rum, perhaps?) I can't get that particular one. No matter as chocolate butter-biscuit ones are a close second for me.
They are hideously expensive here, but occasionally I just need to indulge myself, let my mind drift back a bit, create my own little place where I fit in again.
