I remember them most as Bowery Boys. When I was a kid I used to watch them on late Sunday Mornings, before football at noon. One of our 3 local stations would air the Bowery Boys movies as well as, Laurel and Hardy, Stooges , Marx Bros, Little Rascals, Abbott and Costello, Old Classic Comedy etc.
I always thought of the boys as grown up rascals and they reminded me of my uncles and their friends.
