A big focus is on how different characters perceive time, the inevitable result of main protagonist Frieren not just being an elf (and thus incredibly long-lived with a very different sense of the passage of time), but also not being the most socially adept person around. It's very much an adult story, but not because of any particularly dark themes (quite the opposite, really) or gratuitous fanservice, but because it's completely grown up writing.
I can't recommend this enough. For me, the best fantasy series (or movie) in a long, long time, in any medium. Legit masterpiece (a term I don't throw around loosely). I watch the subtitled version (and I can understand much of the Japanese anyway), so I can't comment on the quality of the English dub, but they do have it. First season's on Netflix (if you don't have Crunchyroll); second season's a lot shorter: it covers a much shorter arc from the manga. It's still just on Crunchyroll in the US.
