I've been watching some pretty cool shows lately while laying about recovering

Just finished 10 seasons of The Blacklist, terrific show.
Gotta love Raymond Reddington, Agnes, and Dembe. I did find Red annoying in his insistence on keeping his deepest secret even from Elizabeth when it no longer served its purpose of keeping her safe. By season 7, I feel that he should have told her so her mess ups and inevitable destruction could have been avoided entirely.
Elizabeth Keen was incredibly annoying throughout the show, but especially in season 8. Not at first, but she turned into an incredibly mercurial dimwit who couldn't find up for down. She was so desperate to find out about her past and who Red really was that she bought into several lies that critical thinking should have dispelled for her. Her evolution from an honest FBI agent to a vengeful criminal was cringe worthy way too many times. I still rooted for her to finally figure it all out. I was sad about her unexpected destruction but more so for Red given who he really was.
Still, I loved the show. It was exciting with mostly likable characters and story arcs. I never watched it before so it was all new to me.
Clip representing only season 1:
Now I am watching the Netflix live action version of One Piece.
So glad it's not at all like the dumb anime version. I hear that its multiple variations (game, anime, live action, etc.) are all the rage with a large slice of goofy.
So far, I love the characters now that I've finally figured out WTF is going on. It is simply CRAZY, but I love "off the wall" and zany characters in real life, so it works for me! It must work for others too since it is hot right now.
Clip introducing show:
I recently finished 4 seasons of Manifest on Netflix. It was very cool and I enjoyed the plot and the characters and mystery surrounding them.
From google: Manifest is the television series featuring a plane (Montego Air Flight 828) that goes missing and reappears, with its passengers having not aged, five and a half years later. The passengers return to a world that moved on without them, dealing with the mystery of their disappearance and supernatural callings.
My youngest son and oldest grandson follow the anime series but mentioned the live action version last year. Now 3 episodes into season 2.
I like the live action very much it captures the spirit of the anime characters and storyline but more fun to follow for me too.
Manifest would be a type of show that would interest me.
I'm waiting for a few shows to start new seasons. AppleTV shows Pluribus is the newest (alien invasion sort of) Severance (mind control / altered states) Silo (dystopian future and mankinds survival) For All Mankind (fictional history what ifs space race) - season 5 starts soon bringing it to present day timeline
My second son at home has me following a couple broadcast shows. Both on Tuesdays we watch together. Best Medicine (based on BBC show Doc Martin) Doc (traumatic memory loss/recovery of doc)
We used to watch shows like House and other detective-like shows a lot.
Glad to hear you are on the mend overall. A Jack of all trades is master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.
... And many thanks for the masters in skill for setting our standard of work to instill.
We LOVE One Piece

...so fans have a LOT of content to immerse themselves in!
I really loved "Queen's Gambit." For one thing, it sticks to the book very well (and the book has been a huge favorite of mine for years...multiple re-reads). For another, it's superbly acted and directed.
But Star Fleet Academy? Oh, dear...
I loved Severence! Can't wait for new season!

Are you able to do any kind of PT while you watch these?
I have a stationary bike I rode before the ACL injury, while watching something on You Tube.
Only time I watch is late at night before sleep, and then after the rude awakening that pisses me off. I watch bowling matches, news like Chris Hayes, Lawrence O Donnell, Rachel Maddow, or network news. I watched the Olympics.
I was ok'd to resume bowling last week after four weeks of healing. Still wear the brace indefinitely. You might be able to bowl. You should ask. You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
First and foremost, I've been watching the second season of "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End." It's a fantasy animated series from Madhouse Studio in Japan...with a difference. The story starts (in the first season) after the big, literally world-saving quest is over. It's anything but the usual combat-fest battle shounen anime, with a deliberate pace, exquisitely subtle writing that focuses on nuanced and insightful character development, absolutely gorgeous art direction, and careful, subtle animations. Well...until they actually are fighting...it's not an action series, but the moments of action are insanely well animated and directed.
A big focus is on how different characters perceive time, the inevitable result of main protagonist Frieren not just being an elf (and thus incredibly long-lived with a very different sense of the passage of time), but also not being the most socially adept person around. It's very much an adult story, but not because of any particularly dark themes (quite the opposite, really) or gratuitous fanservice, but because it's completely grown up writing.
I can't recommend this enough. For me, the best fantasy series (or movie) in a long, long time, in any medium. Legit masterpiece (a term I don't throw around loosely). I watch the subtitled version (and I can understand much of the Japanese anyway), so I can't comment on the quality of the English dub, but they do have it. First season's on Netflix (if you don't have Crunchyroll); second season's a lot shorter: it covers a much shorter arc from the manga. It's still just on Crunchyroll in the US.
Let me think of a few more...
Your recommendation of Frieren carries weight

I filed that under things to see.
I went to No Kings yesterday and documented. You may have seen it. If not,
We're on a save the USA and the world, so the post conflict emergence in reality is a dream requiring much hard and smart work 'tween now and then. Heartening to see the No Kings response. For this conservative MAGA stronghold, response was remarkable.
My MAGA moron men got in a fight yesterday at church. I mean it almost became violent. They were arguing about whether the front access to the chapel had steps or not. MAGAted banged his big bony martial arts fist he uses like an Ankylosaurus tail, on the table so hard everyone's coffee jumped. One tipped over and a mug almost tipped. His opponent banged his first in response and the two large, tiny men stood up and squared off. MAGA in action.
I said, "Gentlemen! If you want to fight, let's do it right. We'll stage in in the parking lot, rope off an arena, publicize and sell tickets. There's no reason to fight if we can't make a profit!"
How often do you see that in Japan? Or Oregon for that matter? You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
Sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
