the base camp at Everest got hit with that disasterous earthquake and avalanche. We were traveling in Africa around that time, about 11 years ago. There was a guy in our group who had planned on climbing Everest that year, but didn't because of that. He was lucky he wasn't there at the time. I think he had climbed Kilamanjaro and was headed that way when it happened.
