We now live in a nation where, increasingly, it will NOT BE ALLOWED to criticize the dictator - er, President. If there's still a difference. Cheers! -greenman

That isn't good for THEIR bottom line any more than not getting the merger would be. Two can play the deception/power pull games. What could trump do if they did that? Squeal that they broke their "word" that they'd give in to him? Riiiiight. If he did that, he'd be "hammering nails into his own coffin" and PROVING everyone's case against him for strong-arming the media like a king or a DICTATOR. Then again, he is THAT stupid, so who knows?

Since then, I only watched Colbert on YouTube rather than on their channel because they are IDJITS for caving regardless of their merger. Their and other media outlet independence is far more important than any one deal they have. I get their anger at S.C. for calling them out, but canceling his show when his contract ends is too far given how RIGHT Colbert is about what they and ABC did in paying him to go away. All they've done is ensure that Trump will be MORE EMBOLDENED to destroy 1st amendment rights across the board for anyone who "dares" criticize him and hurt his widdle feelings. Talk about a SNOWFLAKE??? This is bad! Very, very bad.

Then the parent company, Paramount, paid trump off, triggering Colbert's rant against them. He's told 2-3 days later that his contract won't be renewed NEXT YEAR. NOT NOW, 10 months from now when his contract ends. That's what happens when you piss off the bosses. NOT when bosses want to appease trump.

Seems obvious to me that they were fine with Colbert trashing Trump up UNTIL it was going to affect their finances. And since Trump is back in office now, grabbing power, bullying and doing all kinds of illegal stuff that can and will affect their bottom line... they're not "fine with trashing Trump" anymore.

Paramount may be afraid that dt will reject the deal they have to acquire another media outlet after Colbert made fun of them paying off the lawsuit, so Paramount gave him a TEN MONTH NOTICE that he's not being renewed because of it. That CLEARLY shows it isn't about trump, but about attacking his BOSSES. The other networks don't have huge deals going that dt could tell the FCC to refuse, so WHY would they fire the two Jimmy's just because trump hates them? Calls to get rid of them just get them MORE ATTENTION and more viewers.

THAT doesn't make me a fool! Who cares what trump claims? He's a known liar and fraud! The upcoming merger deal has been in the works for MONTHS! Colbert has been having a field day criticizing trump quite harshly. Not a word from CBS or Paramount. Paramount paid off trump for his idiotic lawsuit about Kamala's 60 minutes interview. Colbert trashed Paramount for it, suggesting @ss kissing of trump 3 days ago. Suddenly he's told that his show will end NEXT MAY. Not today. Not next week, but NEXT MAY 2026. In the meantime, Colbert has continued trashing trump but NOT trashing CBS or Paramount. He has the top rated show on their network. So you figure it out. If he was being fired because trump wanted it, he'd already be gone. EDIT: Paramount is letting him finish his contract provided that he mind his manners regarding Paramount, NOT trump! Paramount just doesn't want another lawsuit against them by Colbert for breach of contract. If it was about trump trashing to gain favor with them he'd be done, come lawsuit or not. trump claims credit for all kinds of stuff that has nothing to do with him fairly regularly! This is just one more!

That is why they paid off his lawsuit. They were still sticking behind Colbert until he went after them publicly and made things extra sticky for them and their merger. Then they decided that they had to do something and they did. It is quite concerning that trump is wielding this kind of power over free speech by forcing his will in areas of free speech that are normally treated by a POTUS as a personal annoyance that comes with the territory.
