Half the fathers on my block when I was growing up worked at Schlitz. It employed many here for years. The plant was right across the street from a junior college i attended part time. LOL.. i'm posting this for personal reasons!

Schlitz Beer was the first beer I EVAR tasted - put into my mouth!
It was an American beer that was big in the islands!
I still remember one of my brother's friends, while playing a domino game, urging me to taste Schlitz from a can!
I was horrified - cause that in itself - would constitute a sin, according to my strict Catholic upbringing!
Then my brother looked at me and said to just take a taste!
I tasted it and thought it was horrible and spit it out!
Again, it was the first beer I ever sipped on!

Later on I tasted it again and it didn't feel that disgusting!
And I tasted it again during domino games and eventually got used to the taste!
AND I CONTINUED TO DRINK THAT SHIT FOR YEARS during my high school years etc.

LOL.. I hadn't heard about Schlitz Beer for years and years until reading about its closing down a few minutes ago.
Oh man, I have such great memories of drink Schlitz beer at parties, while playing dominoes, watching cricket & football/soccer games, playing music, etc. GOOD TIMES!

Like I said, the 1st couple times I heard him I thought, "hmm, interesting guy", because he was echoing some of my new ways of thinking about the Black condition and the way forward, including having spent too much emphasis on things like busing, integration, dependency on gov't largesse, fighting crime, sticking to one party no matter how badly we were treated, etc etc. But then I caught on that he was selling those ideas not because he believed them but because the Neo-Conservative movement bubbling up at the time wanted to put up a couple Black faces to push through their anti-Civil Rights agenda etc. Woodson was truly a neo-CON MAN! Lol
