Please kind sirs and ma'ams, try to educate me as to why we should elect her to the highest office in the land. Everything I see is that she is way over her head and gulping for air.
Good to see you Number80, its been a long time. Hope you are fine.
Good question but first, do you believe that Donald Trump was truly shot in Butler, PA? Do you believe that he was really targeted? If yes, why?
I think what annoys me most about politicians is why don't they do what they say they're going to do. The question is asked: "Why do politicians break their promises?"
Are all politicians bad people, habitual liars, or deceitful? Or are they just good old-fashioned bullshitters?
I don't believe most politicians in the two major parties lie on purpose. I think they mainly speak with the best intentions. I believe that they mean what they say when they say it,... but then things go wrong once they sit in the oval office. This game is really updated, Number80. PPl fall for this crap everytime, every 4 to 8 years,.. and it makes me laugh so hard. HAHAHALOL!!

Thanks Theone, I am doing well. To answer your first question, I absolutely believe that Trump was targeted and shot in Butler. The why is a complicated question. Why are people in the spotlight targeted by whackos? Why did Mark Chapman kill John Lennon? But I do believe the rhetoric coming from the Democrats and "Never Trumpers" who all say that Trump is a "clear and present" threat to democracy motivates whackos to act. All you hear is that if Trump is elected, he will become a dictator (despite our government's system of checks and balances designed by the founding fathers). Former US Representative Liz Cheney has publicly said she will do "whatever it takes" to keep Trump out of the White House. Ms Cheney, please tell me your definition of "whatever it takes." Is there an upper limit?

I believe that most are a combination of all the above. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those who get the power put themselves into an ivory tower of elitism. The "elites" believe it is their duty to guide us. Google former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's debate on populism at the Oxford Union. Which side do you choose?
"I don't believe most politicians in the two major parties lie on purpose."
You have a good heart Theone. But I have to disagree with you on this one. I absolutely believe that politicians will lie to your face. We see it every day. Our illustrious forum leader, Les jumped into the political pool. We need him to tell us if he found it to be a pool of lies.
Once upon a time we were protected by journalists who would expose the lies coming from either major party. Now we find the major news outlets to be nothing more than the propaganda arm of their affiliated party. I call BS on this. It's tough to do so, because it forces me to dig through the BS in search of the truth. But at the end of the day it's better to do my own homework.
Good to hear from you, #80! You're one of the good guys, a very authentic self! Unlike me who's a keyboard revolutionary, you do shit! If I remember correctly, you actually lectured one of Les Lester's classes on aviation or being a pilot, right? Big props on that and much respect!
As for politics, most politicians have to lie by instinct cause telling the truth is career-killing - most folks can't deal with the truth. It sound cliche-ish but it is what it is.
I have escaped both political parties because on a certain level they cater to the nation's oligarchs, not common folks. It's all about money and who's funding who.
Right now, because of my deep support for the Palestinian cause, I can't support Biden and the Democratic party. From where i'm sitting, Biden is an active enabler of the genocide going on in Gaza, the West Bank, and now Lebanon. The Democratic party is Zionist occupied territory!
As for the Republican party, I CAN NOT go for Trump by any means, and it surprises me that you support him given his attempted coup on Jan.6. I know you are a true American patriot, so why overlook that damning fact? Trump is also a Zionist (his daughter is married to one) but with Trump you get the impression he'd not tolerate Netanyahu's recklessness & excessivness which endangers America's interests and safety. Plus, he's against more funding for the Ukrainian war, which is cool with em!
Right now, I am wishing & seeking a Third Way. At this particular moment, Jill Stein looks good.
GM, Thank you for the kind words, but I'm an old retired guy now. So I don't do much of anything anymore. I spend an inordinate amount of time being a keyboard genealogist. There are so many interesting stories to discover when you start digging around in your family's past.
I am not surprised that you have broken ranks with both major political parties. You have been blazing different trails for quite some time. Which I also salute.
But let me first start with Jan 6th. This was a political event gone bad, but I don't see it as an attempted coup. Was the capital stormed by armed insurrectionists? The only shot that was fired was at a woman who in my opinion foolishly tried to enter a restricted chamber of the building. I said then and I will say it again, I deplore the forced entry of the capital. I would have taken my place beside the Capital Police to protect the building. Watch the footage of the people who entered the building. Most of them were peacefully strolling around. Is that a coup? Compare this event to Portland, Seattle, Kenosha or Minneapolis prior to that. Damage in the millions, many lives lost. The entire nation was suffering discontent. Jan 6 pales in comparison.
As for Palestine. What was your reaction to the Oct 7th attack on Israel? I've heard that over 1200 men, women and children were killed. I've seen footage of one of the female hostages who showed signs of violent rape and who was ultimately found dead. How many hostages are still alive facing who knows what kind of terror and abuse. Were these actions justified?
I would like to be able to write more, but I am have to break away from the keyboard and help my daughter prepare for her upcoming wedding. Fingers crossed on this one!
I get your point, but you can't compare city riots to a bunch of guys trying to take over the Rotunda of the state capitol with police having to use teargas & percussion grenades to move them backwards. Let's not forget even VP Pence felt threatened and had to be surrounded by guards to protect him from the mob. And Trump was the voice encouraging them! Not a great moment for American Democracy!
As for Oct.7, for folks like me who's been following the Israel occupation & apartheid of the Palestinian people's land, the Hamas attack was no surprise. My sympathy goes to the folks at the concerts but not for the IDF soldiers in the area who got killed. And don't forget the area they attacked was part of occupied Palestinian territory.
I do remember the image of the Israeli woman being loaded into a van and she sure looked like she was subject to some form of sexual abuse. And as if the whole attack wasn't bad enough, the Israeli propaganda machinery started exaggerating what really happened with claims that babies were placed in ovens and women's belly were cut open and their babies removed etc etc. Those were lies discredited by even the New York Times. Unbelievable!
Congrats on your daughter's wedding but man, it's gonna cost you a pretty penny.. Seems the most expensive things these days are weddings and funerals. As i've told my kids, when I kick the bucket, just toast me - burn me to a crisp and scatter the ashes whereEVAR. lol
Thanks for your reply, Number80. Yes, there must be a valid reason why someone attempted to assassinate Trump. A reason that is not necessarily bad for other supporters.
However beyond Kamala or Trump, there is one thing that everyone should vote for and I mean this tongueless question in essence of this election isn't who out of Kamala or Trump gets the vote, but who people want to be?

My ole football buddy, #80. I don’t believe it. I haven’t talked with you in some time, #80.
Well, forumites, when we were kids, I thought #80 was a Kennedy, DFL, type. He had arrived in Mississippi from Michigan, so I guess folks like me simply supposed northerners were naturally politically progressive. So, I’ve been quite surprised that you’re in the GOP camp, 80.
After all, Panola County carried Barack Obama, during his runs, despite the state going GOP, in the Electoral College results.
Many Blacks hold conservative views 80, at least socially speaking, but the GOP types have pushed views that would hold us out of the best of American life. Anti-affirmative action, anti-integration of schools, frankly Jim Crow proponents, the scions that kept Blacks from basic rights like utilizing hotels, and enjoying restaurants. When I was a kid, we couldn’t stay at the Holiday Inn; and the Mid-South Fair, in Memphis, had a separate day for Blacks.
In 3rd grade, I went to the public library for the first time. When the teacher told us we could check out any books we wanted, I checked out books on football, and learned about Night Train Lane and great Delta-raised NFL players. Prior to that era, it was against the law for Blacks to use libraries in the South.
Now, Trump brags about grabbing women in their privates; and leisurely leaves America’s classified documents in the open for Russian agents to see, and now talks about reprisals against his enemies, if he’s elected.
Kamala, meanwhile, has rose from District Attorney, to Atty General of California, to Senator, to VP. Sounds like she knows what she’s doing.
Now, in elementary school, a teacher told us that the Soviet Union was planting families in the US as spies to infiltrate the government, in the future. Well, at least one of Trump’s Eastern European wives’ father worked in the intelligence apparatus fostered from the Soviets, and Trump’s dad was from Germany.
Given Trump’s suspect relation with Putin, and his blatant lack of character, I can’t see how anyone would turn over the keys to the nation to that guy.
Now, I’m supposing you, like many of the nation’s military brass, are realizing he’s too brazen to handle the reigns of this country.

Les, my old friend and teammate. As a "yankee" from (and once again residing in) Wisconsin (and a short time in Michigan's Upper Pennisula) I found Mississippi to be a uncomfortably racist. But it was racist from both sides. I spent my first 2.5 years attending school in the North Panola school district where I was the minority (by my calculations it was about 95% black to 5% white). I know what it feels to be singled out for abuse because my skin color (and accent) wasn't the same as most other people. To this day, I avoid Como MS (home of North Panola Jr High) at all costs. Even though our old bubbas from Batesville talk about how the Como Steak House is such a great restaurant, I can never go there. Would bring back too many bad memories. My family's move just a half mile down the road before my freshman year put us in the South Panola district and opened the door to a way better environment.
But as a white guy, I was troubled to see places in Batesville (either the fairgrounds or the someplace like that) that still had signs over water fountains and restrooms saying "Blacks Only". I didn't understand why they would segregate such basic services.
Bottom line, my time in Mississippi was educational.
But you tell me Les, is the Mississippi of today as bad as it was in the '60s.
Now, back to my original request, Kamala Harris. I have seen absolutely nothing to convince me that she has what it takes to lead the most powerful nation on this planet. I'm not looking at it with a bias about her gender or her race, rather from how she conducts herself on the national and international stage. She does nothing to inspire me.
As for military brass and Trump. I never had any direct contact with the man, however one of my classmates (who shall remain nameless) was "big brass" and in repeated direct contact with Trump. He shared two stories with me about how Trump did not like to follow the advice of his "experts" but instead followed his own path. I don't know what Trump's real intentions were during those meetings, but he wasn't one to allow the "system" to work. He had to interject his own direction. Guess that's why some retired military brass worked to elect Biden. But I've seen a recent letter signed by many more retired military brass in support of Trump. Guess the Biden admin left them greatly underwhelmed. As for me, all I have to see is that video of a USAF C-17 trying to taxi through a sea of Afghanis. We could and should have done a better job of leaving Afghanistan. Ultimately Biden's fault.
By the way, sorry to disappoint you because I am a conservative. Guess it takes all kinds to make a world.

Yes, #80, I remember you told me (or was that online, here) about the issues you had as a minority at North Panola. I was shocked to hear about the reverse racism you experienced. But since Black kids are primed with anecdotes about racist white behavior, from their earliest years, I should expect such blow back from the kids.
That's the major problem in this country, (priming). Mass media primes the minds of the masses by hiding the good things about Blacks, such as Black classical cultures. And subsequently paints the most limiting imagery of Blacks, Natives, and Latin Americans possible.
Also, whites aren't taught about the Ottoman slave trade of whites, which was concurrent with the trans-Atlantic trade into the latter 1800s, giving white masses a false picture of the past.
It's a fact that if the "Ten Commandments" movie depicted the characters as they really looked--Blacks. We'd have a totally different color-based culture in this world. Probably the same values, since the Hebrews and Mesopotamia were God-based cultures (e.g. Hammurabi Codes), resulting in morally minded population bases.
Yes, Mississippi, and America, is much better than the segregated accommodations bastion of the 1960s. But we can't chalk it up to the Trump types of the world. In Tennessee, Florida, and Texas, they're fighting against putting accurate history in the schools, and of course the full MAGA movement is about maintaining white supremacy, strengthening states' rights, which led to Jim Crow.
As for Kamala's leadership qualities, just objectively look at her superior performance against the trumped-up interview with Fox. She went on to outline her successes as Attorney General of California.

Hi back Debbie! I don't know if you saw the attached video of a press conference after VP Harris represented our nation during a visit with the president of Poland. When asked a serious question about Ukrainian refugees, she responded with her signature laugh then joked, "A friend in need". It was embarrassing.
I have never seen her publicly show she has the same command of the facts as (forgive the comparison) JD Vance. Maybe it would be more appropriate to compare VP Harris to former representative Tulsi Gabbard. I considered Ms Gabbard to be too young, but one thing is certain, she's sharp. If Biden had selected Ms Gabbard to be his VP I would be singing another tune.
Well, the article has already been proven wrong. Over half of American voters are going to vote for her. More than Pink Floyd 45.
See attached website 3rd paragraph down. The prez of Polland says Kamala is doing a great job. I think you need to read about her, 80. She's like that super smart kid in school.
Kamala Harris,Vice President of The United States of America; U.S Senator; Atty General of Cali;a District Atty, and worked as an atty for children. Kamala has been battle tested and proven. Winning cases against international criminal enterprises; human trafficking...and making policy. Howard Sterns Show was the best interview to me. Check it out. Howard asked questions no one else asks. Very good.
VOTE FOR DEMOCRACY! 45 already attempted a coup on America. Treasonous!

All, we truly see through different lenses which are shaped by our experiences, wishes and desires.
Do any of us know either candidate on a personal level, let alone simply be in the same room as one of them? So, we don't know their innermost character or capabilities. We really are like the blind men examining an elephant. (See link below) We believe firmly in the small part we observe without seeing the total picture.
I do not like what's happened under the Biden administration. Way too many issues to list here. I don't see Harris changing the vector. At least she isn't suffering from dementia.
I did like where we were going under the Trump administration, despite the mean tweets.
Big question, if Trump does emerge victorious, will there be more of the "mostly peaceful" but very destructive protests as before? We shall see.
On a much more positive note, I finally got to walk my eldest daughter down the aisle yesterday. I am no longer the most important man in her life (heavy sigh). Her mom and I will soon be heading back home to a busy schedule, so my presence back on this message board is coming to an end (for now). Wishing you all health and happiness.
Wishing you well too.. We disagree politically (not as far apart as you might think!) but I respect your takes. And plus, to me, you are quite authentic - a patriot & true to your beliefs..
Here's hoping you drop by every now & then before the election to share your thoughts and keep us updated!
Congrats to your daughter & son-in-law, and wishing them a lifetime of love & bliss. Amen
#80---Big question, if Trump does emerge victorious, will there be more of the "mostly peaceful" but very destructive protests as before? We shall see
Deb-When people show you who they are, believe them. Jan 6th, every neighbor that drove back into thier driveway, I was outside screaming turn on your TV. That was an attempt to overthrow America. If you are waiting until he is elected to see if he will do what he is telling you he will do is like waiting on a Cat 5 hurricane to hit before you evacuate. Believe what he tells you because he has already tried once. I am really tired of ignorant people saying,he want do that; he does not mean that. Hell, take the man at his word, because there are no ooops, I made a mistake voting for him when the man began working his plan of Project 2025. Trump is mentioned over 300 times in that KKK domination plan. Just because you are a White peasant, does not mean you will fair well under him. Just saying.
