Well, forumites, when we were kids, I thought #80 was a Kennedy, DFL, type. He had arrived in Mississippi from Michigan, so I guess folks like me simply supposed northerners were naturally politically progressive. So, I’ve been quite surprised that you’re in the GOP camp, 80.
After all, Panola County carried Barack Obama, during his runs, despite the state going GOP, in the Electoral College results.
Many Blacks hold conservative views 80, at least socially speaking, but the GOP types have pushed views that would hold us out of the best of American life. Anti-affirmative action, anti-integration of schools, frankly Jim Crow proponents, the scions that kept Blacks from basic rights like utilizing hotels, and enjoying restaurants. When I was a kid, we couldn’t stay at the Holiday Inn; and the Mid-South Fair, in Memphis, had a separate day for Blacks.
In 3rd grade, I went to the public library for the first time. When the teacher told us we could check out any books we wanted, I checked out books on football, and learned about Night Train Lane and great Delta-raised NFL players. Prior to that era, it was against the law for Blacks to use libraries in the South.
Now, Trump brags about grabbing women in their privates; and leisurely leaves America’s classified documents in the open for Russian agents to see, and now talks about reprisals against his enemies, if he’s elected.
Kamala, meanwhile, has rose from District Attorney,
to Atty General of California, to Senator, to VP. Sounds like she knows what she’s doing.
Now, in elementary school, a teacher told us that the Soviet Union was planting families in the US as spies to infiltrate the government, in the future. Well, at least one of Trump’s Eastern European wives’ father worked in the intelligence apparatus fostered from the Soviets, and Trump’s dad was from Germany.
Given Trump’s suspect relation with Putin, and his blatant lack of character, I can’t see how anyone would turn over the keys to the nation to that guy.
Now, I’m supposing you, like many of the nation’s military brass, are realizing he’s too brazen to handle the reigns of this country. Previous Message
Thanks for your reply, Number80. Yes, there must be a valid reason why someone attempted to assassinate Trump. A reason that is not necessarily bad for other supporters.
However beyond Kamala or Trump, there is one thing that everyone should vote for and I mean this tongueless question in essence of this election isn't who out of Kamala or Trump gets the vote, but who people want to be? Previous Message
Thanks Theone, I am doing well. To answer your first question, I absolutely believe that Trump was targeted and shot in Butler. The why is a complicated question. Why are people in the spotlight targeted by whackos? Why did Mark Chapman kill John Lennon? But I do believe the rhetoric coming from the Democrats and "Never Trumpers" who all say that Trump is a "clear and present" threat to democracy motivates whackos to act. All you hear is that if Trump is elected, he will become a dictator (despite our government's system of checks and balances designed by the founding fathers). Former US Representative Liz Cheney has publicly said she will do "whatever it takes" to keep Trump out of the White House. Ms Cheney, please tell me your definition of "whatever it takes." Is there an upper limit?
"Are all politicians bad people, habitual liars, or deceitful? Or are they just good old-fashioned bullshitters?"
I believe that most are a combination of all the above. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those who get the power put themselves into an ivory tower of elitism. The "elites" believe it is their duty to guide us. Google former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's debate on populism at the Oxford Union. Which side do you choose?
"I don't believe most politicians in the two major parties lie on purpose."
You have a good heart Theone. But I have to disagree with you on this one. I absolutely believe that politicians will lie to your face. We see it every day. Our illustrious forum leader, Les jumped into the political pool. We need him to tell us if he found it to be a pool of lies.
Once upon a time we were protected by journalists who would expose the lies coming from either major party. Now we find the major news outlets to be nothing more than the propaganda arm of their affiliated party. I call BS on this. It's tough to do so, because it forces me to dig through the BS in search of the truth. But at the end of the day it's better to do my own homework.
