The field behind the houses on Birtwhistle Avenue is still there and is visible on Google Earth. When I was young you used to be able to cut through the field from Crawley Avenue / Birtwhistle Avenue to Johnston Avenue, so it was a shortcut to school for me . The entrance at Crawley/Birtwhistle is, I think closed off now so it is only accessible from the other end.

One of the houses on Birtwhistle Avenue used to be a Police house. Mr. McLaughlin and his son Brian lived there. I went to school with Brian and Mrs. McLaughlin died when we were maybe about 8 years old.
