When I took my 11 plus in 1961 there were too many passes to go to Jarrow Grammar, for some reason the powers that be created what they called an X stream at Clegwell, it was the first of its kind, as a consequence some of us were sent to Clegwell. I think where you lived contributed to where you were sent as I plus a few others who lived in Bill Quay, Pelaw and Wardley were sent to Clegwell.
