Sheila, not a matter of "my version", what I stated was FACT, about the Warsaw Pact, and the subsequent formation of NATO, to DEFEND the west.

And don't forget the Russians erecting the Berlin Wall, trying to force the US/GB/French out of Berlin.
Again, against the agreement that all 4 nations would govern Berlin, in the interim. But no, the Russians wanted it all, but didn't count on the "Berlin Airlift" and the willingness of NATO to support the people of West Berlin, as per the agreement.
And I am well versed with the Soviet Union, Sheila, as I served with NATO forces throughout the 1970's-80's, and was well briefed as to what they were capable of....
