The Plan G that you have is the most comprehensive plan out there. Anything Medicare pays, it pays the rest, except for the Medicare deductible which is the first $250 of the year. We started out with plan F which even paid that. I had a shoulder replacement and elbow and wrist surgery, and never paid a cent. If fact, all the years we had plan F, we never paid a dime to any medical doctor.
But, the price is age related. It goes up every year due to age and inflation. Ours started at around $125. Now it is over $350. So, we switched to Hi-Deductible G. It's like a G or an F, but we pay the first $2800 per year. The premium is around $60/month. At first glance, that seems terrible. But when you crunch out the numbers, it is quite a bit better. So far this year, I've paid around $20 to the doctor plus the monthly premiums.
If you go to the dentist and the eye doctor on a regular basis, you always get your money back with insurance. That has been our experience.
You have to have part D prescription insurance, or later when you get it, there will be a penalty that stays with you the rest of your life. We have one that suits our pharmacist. Not all policies treat local drug stores the same, as some insurance is owned by CVS and of course they want you to go there and really stick it to the little guys.
If I remember right, you are an engineer? That means you are used to crunching numbers and analyzing data. You can handle this. So called experts are paid by someone, if not by you. They have their own biases. And sometimes they aren't even right. That is my experience with accountants anyway.
