I use to drive 5-10 above the limit. Quite often traffic in the center lane seems to hang there. Nowadays I stay closer to the limit - my reflexes are not as fast as when I was young, and I wear glasses which are not as good as the 20/20 eyesight I use to have. Glasses do not work well with peripheral vision.
Legally, all drivers are within their rights to refuse to exceed the speed limit. Problem is that I have ended up being behind a slow poke driver going under the limit but in front of a crazy who is just about sitting in my trunk. It's a potentially hazardous situation, especially when there's more than one lead foot on the road. I try to pull over right to let them pass, but I can't always do so. Let the crazy sit in someone else's trunk - I like my trunk undamaged as well as my person.
New York drivers say New Jersey drivers are worse, and visa versa. Having lived in both states for years and driven many miles in both states, I see no difference. Both states have their crazies. And its getting worse.
