Yurman is not in the same league with Jean Schlumberger-era Tiffany creations like 16-stone rings, 20-stone earrings and "Lynn" earrings and necklaces. Not even close.
People who bought legacy Tiffany items didn't need to "shop around". It was what they chose because they had a choice. Now, there are no bargains on legacy Tiffany items, not even on the secondary markets. Rings like the 16-stone that cost $4800 20 years ago now cost $15,200 new, and are close to that on eBay, 1stDibs, and elsewhere.
Admittedly, Tiffany has started producing cheaper-looking "trinket" stuff (e.g., little gold keys on skinny chains), and they are in long-term decline because tastes and affordability of the American public has gone to hell in a basket. At one point, Tiffany sullied its reputation by bringing out 7.44Kt "Rubedo" gold trinkets, which they quickly buried once they realized what they had done. Men no longer wear Oxxford suits and Allen Edmonds shoes to work ... it's Old Navy jeans and Under-Armor crap. Women no longer wear Bonwit-Teller silk dresses ... it's skin-clinging, show-your-ass Nike tights and American Eagle ragged, off-the-shoulder tops.
Guys like KR are straining at the hip pocket to pay that big mortgage and $78K he-man vehicles that depreciate 50% in the first 2 or 3 years. He goes thru vehicles almost annually like wildfire, whereas my newest vehicle is 7-1/3 years old, and the oldest one is 26 years old, all in pristine working order. I bought my new $52K XT5 at season-end in 2018 for $40K because it had sat 6 months on the floor of the Cool Springs Mall in Brentwood TN as an advertisement, and the dealer had written off $12K as advertising expense. It came directly from the GM Spring Hill factory 6 months earlier and had 28 miles on the odometer. It was no different than the 2019 models that were being sold at full MSRP. When you keep a vehicle for 10 or more years, who cares about it being 1 model year newer when purchased, or what its future re-sale value will be? KR paid twice as much for a Chevy that he might keep 2 years and lose as much as I paid for my XT5. That's why my wife is the one here with the Tiffany diamond that lasts a lifetime ... and appreciates in value every year.
Evidently I do "shop around". Ol' Mondo keeps up with markets daily while you do your annual new vehicle dance. ![]()
