I don’t think the coalition holds together if Trump dies
A lot of the MAGA people are followers of Trump, not Republicans. And nobody else will be able to mobilize them and keep the rest of the party in line. That’s apart from the likely infighting to get/keep power and authority that will naturally occur. I agree the evil ideological apparatchiks like Miller and Voight will still be there with their destructive, authoritarian programs. What I didn't expect was the full level of the vengefullness, and the completely lack of anyone in the senior leadership willing to block his worst instincts, even if they're doing it on the down low through back channels. He was still wild-ass Trump demanding fealty at all times then but there were still some guardrails and "adults" in the room. I feel like he would have been dissuaded from what he's tried in LA and DC (and surely every city soon). I don't think there will be a civil war because it's just the elites vs. everyone else. No real competing interests for the elites; instead it's just going to be a uniquely shitty time for this country that will probably not get cleaned up or dealt with properly. Previous Message
