Probably means your dad has lost value in his 401k? And did you ask at what value or would have to sink in order for him to start caring? The problem with "well my 401k is going up" is that it's just another way to say "fuck you, I got mine," except now, it's also a way to say "fuck you, I was told I got mine so I'll blindly believe it, but don't really know how the economy functions, have no idea the long term effects of the weakening USD, don't give a fuck about anyone other than my immediate family, but that doesn't include my grandkids. He's a good person. Great father. Unfortunately, he's also as cheap as they come, so when I bring up all the awful shit that Trump is doing, his response is "yeah, it's somewhat troubling, but at least my 401k is doing well."
It doesn't affect him directly and until it does, he won't see how truly terrible it all is.
