It’s a ski jump. If you jumped farther, that means your technique is better. There is not the slightest shred of a rationale that in any sane universe would make anyone think that a judge needs to be involved. There’s not a judge in the long jump, or the hundred yard dash. Then again, the summer Olympics don’t completely suck.

Reminded me how absolutely terrible most Winter Olympics sports are to watch. They could just show 1 luge run 47 times in a row and maybe 16 viewers works wide would notice. Utterly and completely worthless as a television spectator event.

All the flavors of downhill skiing are almost as bad. And then there are only like 4 events that actually involve real head to head competition. Hockey, short track speed skating, cross country skiing, and thst snowboard race thing. Every single other event is 1 person going and being judged or timed.

The whole thing is just awful and boring.
