Some of these townships have multiple acre lots and 50 yard driveways, which makes it a long haul. And I noticed a distinct difference in people’s interest in even having a conversation.

In Ann Arbor and other small towns nearby in the small town communities people would be open to sharing how they would vote and be pleasant, even if they didn’t agree with who I had hoped they’d vote for.

And townships people in a much greater percentage are asking how end end know that there are three voters in this house or how do you know my name?

I’ve also run into about 5% of people who will answer the door and then hear my first few words and then wave at me and just slam the door. Or more like shut the door with a little bit of extra umph.

I also stopped at a house that had a large banner in the front yard that commemorated 911. And the residents were leaving down the long driveway as I parked and got off my car. They rolled down their windows and said hello, but saw my Democrat button, and their faces turned immediately.

Three of them were on my list, which meant that they had voted in the Democratic primary recently. The seventy-year-old man was very angry at me for stopping at his house. I told him that I can mark him as Republican so that no more canvassers will come to him. And that it might’ve been a mistake that he was on my list but that I was not intentionally trying to aggravate him. This made him pretty angry, and the other people in the car started shouting at me.

The funniest interaction was with a man who was working on his yard tractor. I asked him if he was the man who lived in the house based on the name on the registration. he said no. So I asked him if he had recently moved there. He said no. His work shed was decorated like a man cave. And one of the registered voters that was on my list was likely this man’s daughter. One of the decorations was her graduation banner with her full name, which matched the name of my list.

The Man told me he was voting for Rogers and I should put that into my phone. And I commented how nice he decorated his garage and thought it was a coincidence that there was a banner with the name of the person he said no longer lived here. I thanked him and left. A Rogers voter that will just lie to your face instead of having a conversation, to me that is perfect as it gets.
