Put it this way, if the cubs didn't have Wrigley, and just had a regular Ole stadium like GRF, then the fans would have dissipated years before the world series. And would have came back to the same stadium when the series-winning team started to succeed.
Winning matters a lot.
I can agree that a stadium closer to downtown might be better for tourists.

I do agree with you that winning is the biggest driving force to attendance but the ballpark matters.
There's a reason that Wrigley attracts much more attendance than Guaranteed Rate Field. People in Chicago have don't even have to travel across the country to attend a game in a much better ballpark.
A better ballpark, location, and gameday experience will improve the White Sox experience a ton.
And I imagine if they build it and you attend you will most likely immediately see the experience is much better and better crowds.
