There are two-in-one modem/routers you can get, but the general recommendation is to get one of each. The two guidelines I've seen most often are that you want a modem with DOCSIS 3.1 and a router with 802.11AX, for future-proofing purposes. The base models to meet those guidelines would probably run you about $250 for both (less if you're comfortable buying pre-owned or refurb).
