The potential of space exploration was always overhyped Archived Message

For all the billions it cost, the International Space Station didn’t provide a meaningful benefit or impact to a single person on earth, other than the incredibly tiny number of astronauts who went up there. And if we spent 100 times that amount (or whatever insane figure it would cost) to put a station on Mars, it would also provide absolutely no benefit to anyone. The distances are way too large and the environment too hostile for interstellar travel to ever happen. Even if not, again you’d be dedicating entire countries’ worth of GDP in order to provide something for a few dozen people. Previous Message He had much higher expectations. I'm going to miss out on most of the cool stuff. *sigh* Previous Message
