Garland certainly messed up taking so long. But the SC here is just giving Trump a potential get out of jail free card, when they should have just accepted the ruling from the lower court. Previous Message and Jack Smith. There is absolutely no reason why the DOJ should have waited 31 months to indict Trump for his January 6 and related conduct. That Trump's lawyers have been able to find a handful of procedural levers to delay a trial that already needed to be fast-tracked was eminently foreseeable.
