There is an established government process for identifying fraud, waste, and abuse Archived Message

It’s the Inspectors General of the various agencies. Even if I wasn’t already disinclined to give Trump the benefit of the doubt, the fact that one of Trump’s first actions was to dismiss almost all sitting IGs makes it pretty clear that honestly attempting to fight fraud and waste is not his actual motivation. They’ve successfully peddled the story that there’s this massive “deep state” apparatus that has been intentionally overseeing fraudulent or explicitly partisan misuse of funds. This is stuff and nonsense, though. Every single government organization I’ve ever talked to or been involved with in the past 20 years has been, from their perspective, resource starved and woefully underfunded to meet their core mission. The last thing anybody wants is to knowingly waste any funding that could be used in a more productive way. Previous Message Is there inefficiencies, reduncancies, waste, and some corruption in government spending? Of course there is. Is there merit in taking a good hard look at some of these programs and whether or not they are worth it? Of course there are. But 1) calling your program DOGE 2) having it being run by an uncsanctioned billionaire with no government experience and 3) apparently being run by, checks notes, 19 year old kids is just beyond the pale. The level of chaos and distraction that Trump has brought to these first two weeks is way beyond what I expected, and my expectations were very low. Do they really think that they are the first people to come up with the idea that government could and should be run more effeciently? Previous Message On the effects of the current administration actions, and one for snarky bluesky links and pointing out what terrible ass wipes these human shitstains are? I enjoy both, but might be nice to be able to discuss without facetious and flippant replies to everything. Just a thought, nerds.
