If the DoJ says they’re not going to prosecute, it’s not like the judge can find someone else to do it, can they? So is there any possible outcome here besides the charges being dropped?

For improper reasons apparently (like maybe reinstating it if the mayor of New York City doesn’t do their bidding). Prosecutors who brought case and even new US Attorney who just got job last month told him to get fucked and do it yourself, with some resigning and others threatening to resign. He’s now apparently trying to do it himself. Judge can inquire into any motion put before them, so I’m hoping this mope has to go in and tell the judge in open court why he wants to drop the case. Lying to judges and doing stuff like this for unlawful purposes is the kind of thing that gets lawyers in trouble with the state bar… and normally legally but well not anymore apparently.
