From what I’ve read (never been there) Black Canyon is also a good “see it from the car” park Archived Message

There isn’t really much hiking, because it’s a super deep, steep canyon. Looks really cool, but you see it from overlooks along the rim. You don’t hike down into the canyon. Previous Message It's on my list to see one of these days. If the road wasn't closed this summer for construction, I would have suggested the drive up Mt. Blue Sky (catch at Idaho Springs off I-70 west of Denver). But, if time allows and you want to skip a bit of I-70 and do some (paved) mountain driving, could try driving Loveland Pass between Loveland and Silverthorn. (Edit: I have not taken this road, but it's a mountain pass, so would some day.) https://sheenashahangian.com/loveland-pass-co/ Another if you have the time and back towards Denver, could get off I-70 and drive north towards Central City and Black Hawk. Drive the Peak to Peak highway a bit. Depending on when you hop off, could take Colorado 72 back toward Denver, or 119 to Boulder and the Denver. (I've driven 119 through Boulder Canyon and it's a pretty drive.) If you have lots of time, carry on to Estes Park then either of the routes back to Denver from there are great drives, though I'm partial to 34 through Big Thompson Canyon, but it comes out further north. https://www.codot.gov/travel/colorado-byways/north-central/peak-to-peak Unfortunately, I've just never been out by Grand Junction. Black Canyon of the Gunnison may be your best bet unless someone local has better ideas. Previous Message even if to get a taste? **Monday, June 16:** Drive from Denver International Airport (DIA) to Grand Junction – approximately 4.5 hours. **Tuesday, June 17:** Meetings at various and sundry ATLCo plant sites. **Wednesday, June 18:** Visit any other sites you would like to see in the area or catch up on office work. Drive back to Denver. I'm thinking Black Canyon of the Gunnison. But anything else I should look at. I don't think I'll have time for any serious hikes or even longer unserious ones. But I would like to maybe photograph some stuff.
