...so there's no way we'd ever not be in earshot of the alarm. We don't leave the still or the boiler unattended while it's running. Previous Message onerous to run. https://www.dir.ca.gov/Title8/781.html (b) While in operation, no fired boiler subject to these orders [except those boilers exempted from annual inspection by Order 771 that are automatically controlled and oil field recovery heaters complying with subsection (d)] shall be left unattended for a period of time longer than it will take the water level to drop from the normal operating level to the lowest permissible water level in the water gage glass--or indicated by indicating devices or recorders--when the feedwater is shut off and the boilers are forced to their maximum capacity unless all of the following are complied with: It was a royal PITA to have a trained attendant within earshot of the alarm at all times. Previous Message ...the actual emergency shut off as well. I put it on our list for electrician upgrades..."the boiler room shouldn't contain the e-stop". We put it on the wall outside the room. I got to use it today. You're damn sure I told my boss that I used the new e-stop we installed after he questioned us about the expense. Previous Message Previous Message I got in around 7 and started the morning routine of starting our Junipero Gin distillation. I prep the botanicals, charge the still, get the boiler and condenser up and running and send steam over to the still. About 10 minutes later I get the industrial EEEEEEEEENT!!! EEEEEEEEENT!! EEEEEEEEENT!! alarm from the boiler. This is a "run don't walk" type of situation. At this point in time I'm not sure if the boiler is over pressure or over temp, but I slam on the emergency stop and start looking over everything. My coworker walks in about 10 minutes later and he and I go over the entire setup procedure together and everything seems right. We refire the boiler and everything seems to be running fine now. We've been down for a few days due to schedule and events and best we can guess is that we had a vapor lock somewhere between the hot water pump and the boiler and starved the boiler of water, causing it to overheat and throw the boiler alarm. HFS though...nothing wakes you up like that alarm. I already hate boilers to start with as if anything at work is going to kill me, it's going to be that thing...but damn. I'm still a little on edge.
