Brentford’s DM and captain Christian Norgaard coming over for 10m pounds plus add ons to take the third spot behind Rice and Zubimendi. Likely signals a Partey exit which is fine given his age, wage and “entanglements.” Norgaard becomes current oldest member of squad at 31. Not a marquee signing but a sensible depth one.

Also Mamdani is a Gooner.

Kudus looked awesome, but we need both eze and savinho to go through. Just not enough offensive quality.

That said, encouraging from frank too. A very structured defense, and a game plan and shape catered to the opponent and game. Bodes well.

Whereas it seems like they’re not going to address 6 and outside back.

From the sounds of it, Bentancur is the one they’re keeping and they’ll (eventually?) offload Bissouma. IMO they should be moving on from both and finding a guy that can be first choice ahead of Palhinha, but Frank seems to really like him, so probably not.

I’m a bit surprised they weren’t able to find a European club for him. Obviously was a disappointment for Liverpool given what they paid, but he showed a lot of flashes and wasn’t a total flop. Wasteful of chances for sure, but he partially offset that by creating a lot of chances. I guess he just wasn’t quite good enough to entice the teams high enough in the pecking order to afford $50M.

No idea what will happen with Isak, but as I said before that’s far less important to the team than shoring up the central defense. Maybe it’s a bias in reporting towards “exciting” signings, but it’s strange and worrying to me that most of the reports about transfer targets continue to be around attackers rather than the massive and glaring defensive needs.

And on a cynical note, I’m already done with the over the top Jota stuff. Yeah, it’s sad for his family, but the way people are acting it’s like he was a club legend who died saving a thousand orphans from a burning building. He was a perfectly solid rotation guy who crashed his sports car.

Ekitike and Wirtz look like the real deal. Frimpong looks to be an upgrade over an aging Robbo, but he's going to make mistakes in the early going. Here's hoping they aren't too costly overall. I think in general, this team is going to need some time to come together, which worries me given the heaps of praise being thrust upon them as the defending champs who upgraded all over the field and made big splashes while doing so.

I'm not entirely sold on Isak as a piece for Liverpool. Don't get me wrong, he's a tremendous talent. But the price tag combined with the fact that if you bring him in, Liverpool will either have to fundamentally change their shape or one of Ekitike, Wirtz, Salah, or Gakpo will have to come off the bench. Gakpo is the most likely of that group, but will he go for that? And even if he does, then one of Ekitike or Wirtz have to move out wide, and it looked yesterday like both of them preferred playing through the middle. And, again, the price tag is enormous.

I agree that shoring up the defense is much more important at this point. Perhaps it won't be a splash signing, but there needs to be more depth and talent there, especially with Quansah now gone. VVD is VVD, but Ibou and Gomez have had injury issues in the past, so depth is vital. Most common name popping up is Guehi from Palace, but I've not seen much movement there. And all the talk yesterday on the broadcast was how little Palace could afford to lose the pieces that other teams want. So I have to assume the asking price on any of those pieces is going to be inflated.

The problem is, Spurs 8s are either box to box mobile guys (Sarr) or young hybrid 6/8 (Bergvall), neither of which are great passers (at this point, I think Bergvall is a potential star, but he’s 19).

So you end up overly reliant on your 10 to progress the ball and any team that packs it in you can’t do anything against.

I'd honestly prefer that we sell both Bentancur and Bissouma and if we replaced them with Paulinha and a deep lying playmaker, then I could get onboard.

If we go into the season with Paulinha and Bentancur as our 6s, then I've got major concerns. It's the most upgradable spot and we would have just... not upgraded.

And even after all the signings so far, reports are they are still in serious talks with Guehi and now there are even rumors they are nosing around Rodrygo. Even factoring in the likelihood they sell Diaz, and assuming they also can get a decent transfer fee for Nunez, it still seems like a really big outlay, way more than they’ve ever spent under current ownership.

I don’t know where they are getting all the money they are splashing this off-season, but I’m not complaining. There’s no salary cap, and nobody gives trophies for most points per million pounds spent. So I’d much rather see them being aggressive and using the cash they have rather than just giving the owners a bigger profit margin. As long as they don’t spend so much that they’ll have no flexibility going forward, then more signings is better, IMO.

I really like Diaz, so I'd rather not see him leave. That said, they are bringing in some exciting pieces.

I still think there is a great striker hiding inside of Nunez somewhere, but like you said, if LFC can get a massive fee foe him, you have to strike while the iron is hot.

I'd imagine there is a plan to sell Chiesa on as well.

Will be interesting seeing all the new pieces next season.

Madueke is 23 with terrific npXG/shot volume and ball carrying nerdstats. On FBRef, the 5 closest comps are Garnacho, Harvey Barnes, Luis Diaz, Martinelli, and Ademola Lookman. Sane and Gakpo are also in the top 10 comps.

I think there's some possible real upside to the move and even if he just stays what he's always been that's a pretty good squad/rotation player.
