services were disasters, unfortunately. We wanted the records organized and summarized. Unfortunately, both we tried did a very poor job. Previous Message Thankfully for me, AI is not there yet for data retrieval in the way that my job requires it. That's largely because there's a huge element of translating requests from what the requestors say to actually writing code. Where I see it having made the best strides is with tools that will save physicians time. There's an AI product that can listen to an office visit and then automatically generate a note in the chart. Last time I saw my PCP (she knows what I do) she told me that it's saving her hours each day. There are also AI tools that will summarize the last # of years worth of notes and present a summary to the doc, that's something that docs just werent doing. It's also getting better at scanning notes and finding items that were note free text but should be documented in discrete fields somewhere. Previous Message In education, I use AI for generating lesson ideas, writing prompts, Google slides now can "beautify" my slides so I don't have to...and more. But what I haven't seen AI be successful at is assessing work to my satisfaction. There are programs out there that attempt to do it, but I wouldn't trust them at this point and I don't think the programs do it in a way that teaches students to get better. According to the article, I should be able to pay for the best version of ChatGPT and have it code a program to grade papers. But again, I'm skeptical about that judgement, empathy, and nuanced ability the author says AI is capable of doing. The upside of that is that I figure my job is safe until I retire in a few years. The downside of that is that it still takes. me a long, long time to assess student writing. 5-10 minutes an essay for 125 students is a lot of time. BUT as a teacher, I do think it's my responsibility to help kids with responsible AI use/exposure. I'm not afraid, like many of my colleagues, of using it due to plagiarism fears, etc. Does it happen, yes. But the benefits outweigh the costs IMO and my hope is that I can guide my students in responsible use. Probably TL/DR for most of you. But if you made it this far, I'd be curious about how AI is playing out in your fields. Especially as my kids get older and I try and guide them with future decision-making!

Could see AI (if it's not already) play a larger role in optimizing individual performance between medication dosing, activity planning, etc. using data from wearables combined with user observations. Could also see AI take a larger role in diagnosing disease. In the orthopedic world, use video for gait analysis to determine treatment. Gather movement data/video and use AI to compare to a baseline to determine treatment. Could be particularly useful in a telehealth situation where an individual is not near a specialist. …and this whole potentially revolutionary uncertainty reinforces the importance of a traditional liberal arts education. The career training value of any college major is highly uncertain. But the value of personal development, self-knowledge, wisdom is enduring in quality of life even if not in paychecks. While I do think that there will always be a need for careers that require a human empathy/emotional element or personal connection, she has no interest in nursing or healthcare careers. Literally had jobs cut at my company 3 weeks ago and part of the rationale is that we should all be able to work more efficiently now with the AI tools available to us. Which means needing less people. AI is definitely going to eliminate jobs. Might create some to, but can’t imagine it’s an even tradeoff. mostly due to the increased size of the context window, and improvement to subagent parallelization. But Claude will still spit out junk that requires refinement by someone who knows what they're doing. If Claude makes you obsolete in your job, you weren't doing anything hard. These tools will certainly continue to improve, but it will continue to be incremental unless there's some kind of wild breakthrough on catastrophic forgetting or metallization, or some new idea enables more than just fancy interfaces with generative static models. Previous Message at least at writing code. the tooling around the model also matters. claude code (the cli) is definitely better than kiro (aws's) and cline (opensource cli) today, even if they all use claude 4.6 as the underlying model.
