The Duke of Devonshire and curators actually got the dates mixed up in the 'Treasures of Chatsworth' series, describing the parure as having been commissioned for “the 6th Duke for his niece who was his female company when he went as ambassador to Tsar Nicholas II’s Coronation in Moscow” which took place in 1896, rather than the Coronation of Tsar Alexander II in 1856. After I wrote an article on the pieces, HERE, I was contacted by the Duke who said “I was wrong, and as you suggest the earlier accounts are correct.” Also the necklace was worn by Lady Burlington for a Vogue photoshoot promoting “House Style: Five Centuries of Fashion at Chatsworth.” Previous Message Hi guys, there is so much history and treasures mentioned at the seat of the dukes of Devonshire Chatsworth in the UK. I look forward to much debate on the treasures of the family and the late duchess Deborah Freeman-Mitford (Deborah, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire) who was I believe for a while mistress of the robes to either QEQM or the present Queen or both. Please see the videos below. Regards, Dave.
