Previous Message I don't know the specifics of the Austrian court, but in general there are two types of warrant, of which the second one was easily received after a King/Emperor had bought a piece of jewellery somewhere. So the Oesterreichers could have been called suppliers to the court, without actually having KuK status, but again: that is the general situation and I don't know the Austrian specifics.
The Austrian court didn't know such a "light" version of warrant. The procedure was quite complicated and rather strict. And considering the location of the premises Oesterreicher occupied until 1918 I doubt they would have been visited by the nobility, let alone the imperial family. But in any case I'm sure they would have made use of any permit to call themselves "suppliers to the court" if there had been one, but the sole distinction Oesterreicher listed in their ads until 1918 was "Lieferant der k.k. Staatsbeamten". I don't know what type of jewellery they might have supplied to the civil servants, but I'd guess some sorts of badges or insignia. Thank *you* for quoting the article in the newspaper of the Dutch Union for Diamond Workers and pointing out the fate of Moriz Oesterreicher and his family further down in the thread about Queen Geraldine's tiara. The Jewish Museum in Vienna had an excellent exhibition about Jewish department stores in Vienna last year and the events between 1918 and 1938 are still very present, not only because it's 2018. All this is very moving when you actually know many of the locations, names and stories, not only from books and documentations, but also from personal accounts.(Edited for typo and misspelling and to correct notation of names)
