Please note that Princess Diana wore the Prince of Wales Feather brooch in 1996. She was with Helene and Bernard Arnault (LVMH) in London. I do not think it the same brooch. The emeralds seems to be different (one longer and the other larger...). I do think Beth will see the differences. But I think this impression might be an optical illusion and that the emerald drop is the same. In this comparison photo it looks to me as if Princess Diana is wearing a shorter, wider emerald drop. While in this photo the emerald drop worn by the Duchess looks wider. Thanks for finding and posting the photos OmerH.

Maybe they would answer ! It is obvious that the jewels given by QEII and QEQM to Princess Diana returned to the vault after her death...it must be the same for the sapphire and diamond brooch. Origin of the brooch/pendant Posted by Beth on March 6, 2019, 8:28 pm, in reply to "Re: Duchess of Cornwall's Prince of Wales Feather Brooch" I have noticed that many websites, both media and jewellery sites, describe the Prince of Wales feathers brooch simultaneously as the gift of the Ladies of North Wales and the Ladies of Bristol to Queen Alexandra. I have no idea how that confusion has arisen, as the Ladies of North Wales gave a totally separate gift from the Ladies of Bristol. Perhaps more pertinently Bristol is in England and some considerable distance (by British standards) from the area referred to as North Wales. Evidence of what the Ladies of North Wales give to Queen Alexandra. These gifts were depicted in the "official" record of the gifts alongside the gift from the Ladies of Bristol and the King of Denmark. The Welsh Prince of Wales feather brooch is in the lower right hand corner. Perhaps some have misunderstood the very faint caption at the bottom. But number 5 on the list, the gift of the Ladies of Bristol, is the brooch on the top right hand side. All around the image of the gifts are numbers. This enlargement shows the numeral 7 clearly printed next to the brooch now worn by the Duchess of Cornwall. The caption to the page states that number 7 was the gift of the Ladies of North Wales. The Ladies of Bristol gave a separate gift which was marked number 5 and was at the top right hand corner of the page. The Ladies of Bristol finally (after some deliberation) gave a gift of a brooch/pendant, which had a 13 carat sapphire centre and a pearl pendant. The brooch below is the gift from the Ladies of Bristol In some respects I feel disappointed that the Ladies of Bristol gave Queen Alexandra this sapphire brooch/pendant as, initially, the ladies had hoped to raise sufficient money to purchase a pearl and diamond suite of jewels.

What she did wear -- and more often than I anticipated -- was the other brooch also given to Queen Alexandra by the Ladies of North Wales. It is at the top left hand side of the image below. I have been slowly collection images and references and have by no means finished searching. To make sense of other images I have (some of which are poor quality) I need to show them with media reports. I will do that tomorrow, as it will take me time to put the images and reports together.

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother more than likely wore the brooch featuring the leek for the coronation tour of Wales in 1937. Sadly, the only photos I have been able to find of this tour are of very poor quality. I have based my deduction on a news paper article describing the post war tour of the King and Queen in 1945. It stated that QEQM wore the brooch in 1937. The 1937 photos are of very poor quality and, although it is possible to guess that the dark sections of the brooch shape are of the leek and the emerald drop, without another source of identification it would be impossible to say what the brooch was. 1937 coronation tour of Wales. 1945 post war tour of Wales. As shown in the cutting above QEQM again wore the brooch in Wales in 1945 And Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother also wore the brooch when she visited the Welsh Guards on St David's Day in 1957 And for a concert that evening - when she provided details of the brooch. Later that year (1957) HM lent the brooch for a display in aid of charity. The press report was incorrect in identifying the brooch as having been given by the Ladies of South Wales, but it is possible that the brooch and other jewels were designated by Queen Alexandra as being for George VI, although personally I doubt if Queen Alexandra would have indicated that the other brooch with the Prince of Wales feathers should go to George VI. The most memorable wearing of the brooch was, of course, to the Investiture of the current Prince of Wales. I am intrigued as to why HM wore it for a visit by President Carter. Does he have Welsh ancestry? Has anyone spotted the brooch being worn by QEQM at other times?
