Unreliable ambulance!
Posted by Mazru on July 7, 2024, 8:59 pm
A close friend of mine died today - no response from the ambulance to get help. A friend eventually told me that it was out of service! Why is there no backup when this happens, why do we continue to put up with an erratic service or no service at all for years since the first ambulance was installed about a decade ago or more! The ambulance that finally came was from Emiliano Zapata. Perhaps it’s time for the proper authorities to take over and stop this Mickey Mouse operation we have right now.
Gee, why didn't someone think of that before. I'm sure the propper authorities will get right on that (sarcasm) Jeannie and her crew have sweat blood to try to make an ambulence available to the town1
If one can’t count on an ambulance being reliable and available at all times, what’s the point? One is playing with lives….I have witnessed the ambulance saga right from its conception and it’s not a commendable one- one month after the first ambulance came about, it was out of service and stayed that way for numbers of years. The second had a similar demise and now we’re onto the third ambulance which is proving to be just as unreliable! Sarcasm has no place here on this subject but rather it looks like it’s time for a reality check.
Lyn P- I just lost a very close friend, take that into consideration please before you bandy around your uncalled for sarcasm. The ineptness of the ambulance in its present form might cost more lives than it saves.
I'm truly sorry for your loss Mazru, very painful indeed. I don't know the particulars of the ambulance response in this case but I do know how incredibly hard Jeanne and her crew have worked to provide this service when none was available before. It's unfortunate that all the funding comes from donations with little help from the municipal or state authorities. I think all the pieces are in place...except for stable funding. I believe that the service is presently saving more lives than there would be without it. Once again, I'm so sorry for the loss of your close friend.
If the ambulance is out of service, the community should be advised and again when it’s back in service. In this way people can save time by looking for an alternative solution.
Hola. First of all, I would like to express my condolences to Mazinka. I'm so sorry for the loss of Paul.
Secondly, I would like to say that problems do exist with the ambulance service of LM. Now, unfortunately, might be the perfect time to address these constructively and find solutions to them.
The ambulance has governmental support from La Huerta in the form of a maintenance, gasoline, insurance, tires, etc., contract, thereby making it a public service. A Board, I believe, exists to give the ambulance service guidance to which the community is entitled.
I propose that the Board, if it exists, hold a meeting, open to all those interested in finding solutions. The meeting(s) would be held to identify any existing problems, out in the open, so that the community is informed and can help in finding constructive solutions to them.
I laud what the ambulance crew and Jeanne have accomplished and hope and know that the glitches can be found and fixed so that we can depend on them and the ambulance.
These are my two centavos and I hope the board and people will respond to my call and assist a very needed, essential service in the community in the compassionate manner it deserves. Cruz
Hola again. I'm so glad that the ambulance call situation has been cleared.
I have known Alicia, the ambulance dispatcher, for some time and know absolutely that she is very, very responsible and would answer any call made to the ambulance number. She always carries or sleeps with a charged phone so that she doesn't miss any calls. The ambulance service couldn't have a more dedicated, reliable volunteer at this post.
On that fateful day, Unfortunately, the call never reached the ambulance phone or Alicia would have answered, definitely.
I'm still hoping that the ambulance Board calls a meeting, just the same, as other issues exist. Cruz
My dear Mazinka, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd like to clear up some confusion about the ambulance, though. It was not out of service. I don't know who told you that. In fact, we went on two calls, both for scorpion stings, that day. I had a message from our dispatcher this morning. Alicia is terribly upset because she is so conscientious and feels somehow responsible. She told me she didn't receive your calls, nor were there any missed calls. The phone is always with her and on, 24/7 and she takes it with her everywhere, but no calls concerning Paul came in. The team is working very hard to increase their professionalism. Chuy is currently attending a "prehospital" training session in Autlan every Saturday for 18 months and is sharing information with the rest of the team. They continue to attend trainings with Pancho every week. They are dedicated! Bottom line, I think the problem is the phone service, not the ambulance service. If a call had come through, Alicia would have dispatched the ambulance. It is certainly not out of service. Yes, we do have a board. If you'd like to contact them, they are Mateo, Paul Zuñiga, and Roberto Contreras. If such a meeting were to occur, the team members should be in attendance as well.
I googled what your phone showed: “ As mentioned in the quick answer, a Cancelled Call on an iPhone refers to a call that never made it to the other party. This means your phone started the call, but got interrupted before the actual call was connected. The other party's phone didn't ring at all.”
Very sorry for Paul’s passing. Huge loss to everyone whose life he touched.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Like everyone in La Manzanilla, I miss Paul. I'm on the ambulance board and will be happy to follow the suggestion of participating in a public meeting.

Firstly, I admit I have not read through all the above messages, but there is something I wanted to say/add. Maybe someone already did and if so, then I apologize.
In my experience, having an US phone number (AT&T), and my husband does too (AT&T), I can hardly ever reach him, using regular celular, when I am at the beach, along the whole bay, past the town. The call just doesn’t go through. The bars might be 1-3, depending on the day.
So I always use Whatsapp when calling or texting him from the beach. And it is rare that I can’t get through.
So I was wondering if the ambulance would be easier to reach using Whatsapp instead. I understand that on the beach, one still uses satélite/ceular since there is no WiFi zone, so I don’t know why it always works better.
Now, I know not everyone has the option to use Whatsapp beyond a WiFi zone, there might be an extra fee, but for those who can call on Whatsapp beyond a WiFi zone, it might be helpful for them.
For that to work, then the person who answers at the ambulance would have to have a Whatsapp plan that allows using satellite/celular, if not present in a WiFi zone.
Well, just a thought I had, reading most of the messages above. Anneli
