1. I think there is some confusion as to the definition of training versus practice. A lot of the OGX "training" is cage hitting and pitching, which a lot of orgs would call "practice". They also do strength and conditioning as part of those sessions. I think there is value to doing those as part of team activities, as the girls compete with and push each other. Many of the girls have personal hitting, pitching and catching coaches as well, who focus more on mechanics. The OGX coaches have never attempted to change my daughter's base mechanics, but have helped with minor tweaks, I assume because they know she has her own coach. Definitely not a "my way or highway type" deal, but they have introduced her to some new metrics and drills that have been extremely helpful. She spends 4-6 hours per week at OGX, opposed to an hour with a private coach, so lots of reps under coaches watch, and accountability.
2. Coaches look at a lot more than GC stats (if they look at those at all). They know when you are playing weak competition. If you daughter wants D1, they need to play against teams that coaches consider to be at that level. A .228 BA only means that some girls hit .400 and other girls hit .075 in one specific tournament. College coaches understand that happens, and hopefully its not the same girls every week.
