We learned the lesson the hard way. If at all possible, when you're choosing a school, don't hesitate to have open discussions with existing players and ask the hard questions. Daughters at a state school, and the coach is bat shit crazy. Seemed very caring during recruiting, but is 180 degrees different once they're on campus. Red flags were all the Ass't Coaches left, and once my daughter spoke with the players, they let her know it only gets worse.

I know everyone's going to call the kid soft, and she's only getting coached up, but this is professional-level head games. Not worth it, thank God for the portal.
