The home plate umpire during that game favored Marist big time. Marist was getting 6-8” on the outside corner the entire game. That is the reason West only had three hits in the game. That umpires zone was completely different when West was pitching. LWW still overcame that terrible home plate umpire . The West pitcher was incredible despite the very small strike zone when Marist was hitting. That home plate umpire was handing Marist that game on a platter.

Marist made some poor coaching decisions. West’s NC State commit stole home with runners on first and third. Marist should have conceded 2nd base in that situation, there were already two outs and two strikes on the batter when West stole home. West had a runner on 3rd base that has been doing first and 3rd plays with the Bandits for 10 years and Marist tried to get cute. That was a poor decision.

West played better defense when it mattered.
