Only 8 teams in the state of Illinois end their season with a win out of 300 plus teams. By your logic they should have forfeited that game and gone home. Their season is a failure. All the work and time they put in for that season was meaningless. Mundelein should throw their trophy and medals out. Their second place finish is just a participation award.

Winning state is really hard. Lots of things have to go right. The most talented team is not always the team that wins. At the end of the day we’re talking about children playing a game they hopefully love. The most important lessons that softball teaches us have nothing to do with wins and losses on the field.

I’d guess Marist was disappointed they were playing in the championship game. I don’t personally know any of them. But when reality punches you in the mouth do you give up and leave or do you fight back?
