The crimson skirted lass had been trapped in Ashen Woodlands for who knows how long with her two daughters – Aya and Drevis. They had been caught in one of those sudden fires common to the area, and it was bad. Kanaya had been left with multiple burn scars, easily visible through singed patches of her black fur. The fire had seemed to last a few days – Kanaya and her two daughters, who were thankfully left unscathed, were trapped though as a result. Both the inhalation of that much smoke but also the burn wounds she sustained resulted in needing some additional time to recuperate. It was coming time that the mother and her two daughters would head back to Hawthorne.
Speaking of the two daughters, they had grown almost rapidly in the time that had passed, but their behavior was like normal despite the fires that engulfed Ashen Woodlands and their mother’s healing process. Aya, a black wolf with a skirt and chest blaze of the same hue of her mother’s own skirt, was constantly picking on her younger sister, Drevis, out of their mother’s field of view. Drevis was practically a perfect copy of their mother – emerald, green eyes, and auburn skirt on a pitch hued base. Aya had inherited their father’s crimson eyes.
All three of them were alerted by the sound of a comet now crashing into the lands, and naturally, just like everyone else, they investigated. Many wolves were coming out with mutations, and the three of them each got their own too. Kanaya had developed some scaly spots which conveniently covered her larger burn wounds. This included a larger spot on her upper right shoulder, her back legs, particularly around her heels, shins, and calf, and a small patch on the right side of her jaw. Some burn marks still lay on her front legs and on her left side, but Kanaya surely could not expect to have her body completely covered by scales. This mutation was not inherently painful for Kanaya – she dismissed the pain as she saw her two daughters wince and cry in pain as wings grew from their bodies. The elder daughter, Aya, had received the Aves mutation – gaining the wings of a golden eagle. They were a nice contrast against her dark and red covered pelt, darker browns accented with streaks of almost a gold color and the inside of her wings more a milk chocolate hue with hints of that goldish hue but also whites. She had the harder time, as her wings were much thicker and larger than those of Drevis, who had inherited wings of a dragonfly with a slight reddish tint to them. Both daughters yowled out in similar feelings of pain – Drevis had a very low pain tolerance.
Upon their calming down from the sudden, drastic changes in their body, the three heard a call from Lucaya, the alphess of Hawthorne, one of the two packs that bordered the woodlands. Kanaya sighed, she knew it was for a pack meeting. How would the mother explain to her daughter that they had been trapped in the fire? It seemed easy enough, but Lucaya had very little trust in her mother as is. Aya, seeing Lucaya as almost a role model, sped up, practicing flying with her wings as she ran. Drevis, on the other hand, walked close to her mother, not daring to try the new fragile wings. Kanaya expressed concern for Drevis, more so because of the mutation she had received…she would surely stick out in Hawthorne…and would the pack revel in that she was different or go so far to banish Drevis because she was the oddball. That, Kanaya worried about. That complex thought had not crossed Drevis’s mind, as her mindset was still more childlike, despite being a teenager. Call it a trauma response as a result of being bullied by her siblings.
After a little while, Aya was the first to tumble into the pack meeting. Tumble meaning, she was mid-glide and still had not yet mastered her landing. She bumped into her brother, Maverick, vocalizing a small grunt as she did. Whether she caused him to lose his own balance or not was another story. Regardless, she recovered quickly, shaking her head. ”Hi Mavey~” The lass said in a playful tone as she moved to sit by her brother’s side. Her crimson eyes landed on Lucaya and her family. ”Hi Lucaya! I missed you sister!” Her tail wagged softly, but Aya did not walk up to Lucaya – it was disrespectful. It was upon those words that Kanaya and Drevis appeared in sight, Drevis staying close to her mother’s side. Kanaya took this time then to speak as she walked up to the gathering. ”I came as soon as I heard, Lucaya.” She paused, letting out a small sigh before speaking once more. ”…there was a fire in Ashen Woodlands.” Her emerald eyes would attempt to meet those crimson eyes of her daughter, only hoping Lucaya would notice the burns still visible on her left shoulder and front legs, and that the injuries would provide enough proof that she did not mean to be away for so long.
Kanaya left it at that, but Drevis, feeling uncomfortable with possible silence, spoke softly, addressing Lucaya. ”Hi sis…” Her emerald eyes looked timidly up to her eldest sister, who Drevis had the most trust in. She never had any trouble from her. Her translucent red hued dragonfly wings flapped a few times. ”I have these cool wings…” She continued, voice still soft, but hoping to get positive comments from Lucaya. Aya, overhearing her youngest sister, looked over, obviously sneered, and turned back to Maverick. Their mother was nearby, so Aya had to limit her degrading words to her youngest sibling.
