“Drevis?” she gasped, staring. “I - ow.” She gritted her teeth. Her wounds were bloody and stinging. The Tarben male had shredded her shoulder and her hip. Blood painted Daneliya’s side, washing her in bright crimson. Chickadee landed nearby, her face alight with pure worry. Remus, Artemis, and Derevko were . . . somewhere.
“Why would you want to help me?” she asked Drevis, woozy with agony. Everyone in Hawthorne thought she had cheated on Maverick and fled, as far as she knew. And Maverick was Drevis’ brother - though she may not be in Hawthorne anymore. By all rights, Drevis should be digging her claws into Danya’s throat, not volunteering to help her. She buckled with the pain. She was going to be lucky if some Tarben wolf didn’t take her for an easy target, barrel past Drevis, and rip her head off.
The skin hung in flaps; if Daneliya looked too much at it she might be sick. She tried not to. Instead, she fixed a wary eye on Drevis, who . . . was technically the aunt to her children. Well - to Nephilim, Khasinau, and Derevko anyway. Chickadee and Kelsea were Daneliya’s two remaining children with Tiberias, her mate from long ago. Killed by Beartooth . . . or had it been Larentia? Wait, what was Remus’ soulmate’s name? No. It had to be Artemis . . . Daneliya collapsed to her knees, gritting her teeth. Blood loss was making it hard for her to think.
