The kappa with that fearsome mask paced the borders of Sabertooth still. But if truth be told, she spent more time than not thinking about Apollo. Her tie with a prince of Sabertooth was exciting and terrifying. What if she screwed up? She might get kicked out if their romance didn’t work! Wasn’t that what had happened to Daneliya?
But all in all, she really liked Apollo. He was refreshing. And despite his one-bloodline status, he wasn’t boring, as he might say he was - having one bloodline was just fine. She appreciated his wit and his humor, and he was so very, very pretty with the particular bloodline that he did have! Already she found herself dreaming about a life they might lead together, full of funny jokes and little pups, happy and peaceful.
When the call came, Misty’s ears immediately perked up. She felt dread rising in her stomach. The call was angry and grieving. Achilles needed the pack. She ran, ran hard, until she got to the clearing. And Achilles was zoning and his daughter Iris was dead upon the grass and blood’s scent tainted the air and everything was tragic.
The shocked once-princess stood there. She let Apollo lean on her, seeking his comfort too. That was when Achilles began to speak.
“Tarben has instigated war. Phobus, their refugee that was supposed to stay in Tarben borders, killed Iris.” Misty’s eyes went wide. Phobus, that a s shole, had murdered Iris inside the lands of her own pack?! He had violated a princess wed to another, instigated war, escaped with his life and health. And now? He had murdered Achilles and Pandora’s daughter, and this likely meant another war would commence. No doubt this was Beartooth’s sick idea of revenge for Prince Hermes’ actions in stealing Aurora.
“Misty?” whispered Marika beside Misty, her eyes wide and fearful.
“At dawn, we will be going to Proving Grounds for war against Tarben.
“Cosette and Aurora, as the acting Zetas, you are to stay here with the children. This includes Hermes and Aurora’s children, Cosette and Marius’s little ones, Pandora and I’s youngest four, and Remus and Artemis’s children. Given our location to the site of war, please keep your eyes on them. Over half of them are your children, so I imagine you should have no issues, but if you would feel safer with a third here, I can make arrangements.
“Leading the front lines will be me, Pandora, Remus, Artemis, Hermes, and Aeolus. Those left that can fly will be aerial combat, and the ones who can’t will be part of the back lines. From my understanding, we have advantage on flight, but they have many ice wielders. Additionally, many of their members are at least partly dire, so they individually are larger than us. It may require teamwork to take them down.” Misty flexed her claws, feeling sick. She would have to stay by Apollo, no matter what, because they had to stick together, didn’t they? She couldn’t leave him facing a direwolf with a need of help.
Achilles’ voice was much quieter now. “We did not reap innocent lives. They did, not once, but twice. We will avenge Iris and Lazarus. You have a few moments before I go bury her.”
If Apollo chose to go to his sister, Misty would follow him. If not, she’d stay with him and she would silently say a few words of farewell.
