I certainly share that pew of not being a whisky snob, people I have a chuckle over much like wine connoisseurs. The peaty or fruity notes with a this aftertaste or that nose strikes me as an affectation simply because you can read reviews of the same thing and get completely and diametrically opposed assessments. I'm convinced its a culture of sniffy self absorbed pillocks who can't discern any qualities beyond what we plebes can, so they make shit up.
I'm as happy with a decent blend as I am with a single, and really only found one that I just couldn't stand. I think it was one of the Johnny Walker rainbow in a carton-full of minis/samplers, part of a cabinet-full of Scotch I inherited from my wife's dad. I believe I gave it to you, Paul, and figured you liked it just fine for there never was a complaint.
The beauty of it is the variety that makes every Father's Day, birthday, and Christmas season a treat, for my family always buys a bottle as a gift, never the same thing but one that might be on special as Memsahib is a frugal woman, bless'r. I enjoy the mystery that comes with each.
I'm hardly a connoisseur.
