Americans market their own brown sauce, A1 Steak Sauce probably the dominant brand. It's certainly palatable but it isn't really a good substitute.
I tend to agree that HP isn't quite the same, though it might be mental just because it got bought up and moved. Still, I'm happy to be able to get it (and Colmans). One of those things that salves the inability to perfectly readjust to the repat-expat conundrum.
