Only 3" deep? LOL Sounds like run off from a hydrant spill, only natural

What is the substrate that the water never carved a deeper bed for itself, instead spreading out so wide that it is more shallow than a kiddie wading pool? (Absolutely NO offense intended by my observation). I'm curious what kind of a bed it has thst leaves it so shallow and wide? Does the water just ramble slowly in a willy nilly way rather than rush about in a big hurry like might have carved a deeper, thinner passage? Or is it like how the grand canyon began but millions of years younger?
