Thanks Anorak gb for the ID on the 855 station I heard as being Radio Romania. That's a pretty long way off so a fair DX catch for just a portable radio with no extra antennas. A bit strange that a couple of the old RNE Spain transmitters are putting out a dead carrier. Presumably engineers haven't had chance to sort them yet and switch them off - maybe the remote TX kill signal didn't work on all the sites as it should.
I remember when BBC radio 1 turned off Medium wave all those years ago there was one TX on 1053 KHZ that refused to go silent and carried on transmitting the program feed for several more hours. It's deadly quiet on medium wave these days, even at night.
Lot's of spots for micro power TX's for those that like to experiment with such things !
