They were renowned for their role as "Keepers of the Eastern Door" within the Iroquois Confederacy. This title reflected their responsibility to protect the confederation from eastern invasions.
My grandmother used to say of herself she was a "Roamer of the Continent". She used to walk us out in the yard and pick dandelions leaves for vegetable.. along with what she called Pig-dog..a broadleaf otherwise weed, like a spinach, and chamomile for tea. Thank God mom believed in mac n cheese and hotdogs..lol..
While they were skilled warriors, their society also emphasized diplomacy, agriculture, and community governance.. so yeah.. He'd have liked them.
