The blundering BBC overpaid staff

Over the last 4 years the BBC overpaid their Staff over £4million.
They hope to recover some from those staff that still work for them.
Money is acquired too easy for them, and overpaying people seems the norm.
Presenters becoming millionaires is an example.

Apparently Huw Edwards has still not repaid the £200,000 that he shouldn’t have received, will he repay it, I very much doubt it, easy come, easy go at the BBC, not their money.

To be honest it is the same with successive governments they lavish our money on all and sundry with no thought given to the contributors, one day there will be no money left as it is getting to the stage where there will be more takers than payers in, it is not sustainable.

There's no accountability. How were the overpayment not picked upon and clawed backpack immediately, people know if they're overpaid, saying nothing is tantamount to theft. If they refuse to return payment then legal action should be pursued. If was us that would be exactly what would happen.

Well if I was overpaid, I'm certain I wouldn't say anything, and I would put my last cent on 99% of the people on this board wouldn't either.(could be wrong maybe 98%.).

Joseph. I would query any “ error” on my payslip if only to check if it was corrected the next month.

The only time that I would not know the amount of my months salary would be at Bonus time.

Always checked if any expenses had been paid correctly.

This BBC thing, the accountants did not know their job of if they did who authorised the extra monies and that’s where the blame lies.

Without question I would report it and have it checked-out.
Only then could I retain the moral ground in questioning dubious financial actions by Politicians and the like!

A few years ago I got £400.00 from my Nationwide saving account and had a savings book. The young guy counted out the cash put it in the book and gave it to me. I didn’t check until I got home. When I took the money out and checked the book it hadn’t been registered as a withdrawal. It must have been late afternoon when I rang Nationwide. I spoke to someone to explain and he said thanks, the guy who served you is at the moment having a problem trying to balance his transactions for the day. I went back the next day and they recorded the withdrawal in my little savings book. I’ve still have it and use it. I am probably one of a very few who still likes her little savings book.

Sheila, I second that, also love to receive hard copy bills etc., plus always have some cash on hand.

Like you Sheila and GBNS I to like hard copies of most things, I have always been a prolific keeper of records, I have been having a problem on my desktop computer, on looking at emails I noticed I have stuff going back to 2007, one of these days I have to go through everything and tidy up the computer, but not today!!

Going back to the BBC it seems as though they have used our money to pay Hamas first some propaganda in Gaza??

BBC have always been a law unto themselves, they seem to have immunity no matter who the governing party has been. They spend money like its going out of fashion yet the local radio network has been decimated leaving it a mere shadow of what it was. The pen pushers and decision makers never seem to be under any threat of redundancy no matter how inefficient they are.

It's a bloated, antiquated organisation that needs a top to bottom review with nobody spared, if you can't or don't do the job properly send them on their way.

OR, dare I suggest the Elon Musk approach?

I am NOT a lover of this guy, actually, the opposite!

However, apparently, he has sent emails to (I don't know how many) government employees, asking "Reply by telling me WHAT you have achieved this week?"
Failure to reply to this email will be accepted as your resignation!!!!

But perhaps a similar email to ALL employees AND management at the BBC might shake them up a bit...

Just a thought...

What a thought Malcolm, but with our laws, the skivers would have their union immediately looking into how much compensation is needed for upsetting them. 😀

Now that would be a good idea but, as Sheila says compo claims, for hurt feelings, would probably result and knowing how the Judiciary works in this country millions would be paid to these people.

I agree with both Sheila & Liz, can't go upsetting anyone!

On a similar thread, I heard the Defence Secretary (can't recall his name) was looking into "waste" at the MOD.
He stated that for a contract to be allocated, ONE guy signs it off, and there are ELEVEN "checkers".
No wonder it can take over SIX YEARS from inception, to the contract being placed......

HOW did it all get in such a mess....

Oh, and there are MORE employees in the Ministry of Defence than in the combined numbers of the RAF & Royal Navy!!!!

Malcolm, it is all part of the mess the our once glorious country, is in, this is through various governments just looking to, in the main, looking after No 1 and not the general public, I just don’t think it will ever end, it has probably gone too far now, thing is I still love my country it annoys me that so many others don’t.

Must step down from my orange box now and put it away for a couple of days!!!

I think it’s always been the case that for every service Person you need 4or 5 in procurement or whatever. However that included making the gear they use.

A lot must be employed right through from Design, manufacture and final disposal.

The problem is that you need XYZ people to feed the military machine irrespective of serving personal.

You're missing the point, a little..

These numbers DON'T include designers, manufacturers etc, who aren't employed by the MOD, they only come into effect AFTER the contract is issued....

These are direct MOD employees.....checking the checkers, checker....etc
